Refill is an award-winning campaign to prevent plastic pollution at source by making it easier to reuse and refill your water bottle on the go rather than buy a single-use plastic bottle.
The campaign works by connecting people who are looking for water with thousands of local businesses, transport hubs and public spaces where they can refill for free. Get the app by clicking the logo below. |

Some Good News
It's easy to get depressed about the scale of the environmental problems that face us, and future generations.
Just to give heart to our efforts here are some good news items that show progress is being made and that individual actions do make a difference.

Glastonbury saw a sea change in attitudes. The 2019 emphasis was on making it plastics free festival. A Co-op pop-up store trialled fully compostable packaging on all its products. Water refill stations were everywhere. And to great aclaim David Attenborough put in an appearance on centre stage (that's mega-star David on the bottom photo!) to thank Glastonbury for its efforts. None of this was concievable at the last festival 2 years ago.

Focus On Trees
The Amazon is often described at the planet's lungs, converting CO2 to oxygen and locking up carbon. Sadly, under Brazil’s new president, Jair Bolsonaro, an unabashed ally of agribusiness, the destruction of the Amazon forest is roaring ahead again. Over 50% more trees were felled in June 2019 than in June 2018, an area of 300sq miles, that's twice the size of the Isle of Wight - in just one month.
The forest is being cleared so that Brazil can produce more beef (mainly for China) and soya for export (mainly for animal feed).
Many people think that halting global warming at 1.5°C will be achieved by new Negative Emission Technologies – machines that can suck climate warming gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air. But such technology already exists. It's called trees. We need billions of them, especially given the tragic shrinking of the Amazon rainforest.

But such technology already exists. It's called trees. We need billions of them, especially given the tragic shrinking of the Amazon rainforest.
Planting billions of trees across the world is by far the biggest and cheapest way to tackle the climate crisis, according to scientists who have made the first calculation of how many more trees could be planted without encroaching on crop land or urban areas.
Research estimates that a worldwide planting programme could remove an amazing two-thirds of all the emissions that have been pumped into the atmosphere by human activities. Read more here....

And planting trees can be combined with a natural rewilding process - encouraging wild-life to recolonise and bringing extra hidden benefits. Read more here ...
