"Each day we see more evidence that ecological breakdown is beyond our worst predictions. What happens over the next 18 months will be critical in determining whether we can avert the most devastating impacts: it’s absolutely vital that we increase the pressure to ACT NOW, which is why we’ll be taking to the streets across the world.
Politicians will not accept that this global crisis needs systemic change. So from 10am on the 7th October, and lasting at least two weeks, we begin our biggest Rebellion yet." - XR

On 31st July members of Bewdley Transition and Kidderminster Transition spent an evening discussing Climate Change issues with our MP, Mark Garnier. This was an enjoyable and enlightening evening. The group benefited from Mark's viewpoints and hopefully he benefited from ours! We look forward to engaging with Mark again and involving him at some of our events.

Some Good News
It's easy to get depressed about the scale of the environmental problems that face us and future generations.
Just to give heart to our efforts here are some good news items that show progress is being made and that individual actions do make a difference, and sometimes even governments take action.

Low-carbon energy was used to generate more than half of UK electricity for the first time in 2018, according to the government’s own annual review of energy.
A rapid rise in renewable energy, combined with low-carbon electricity from nuclear reactors, made up almost 53% of power generation.
The UK’s capacity to generate power from the sun, wind, water and waste grew by 10%.
The UK’s use of coal fell by a quarter, to a record low of just 5%. more...

Ethiopa shows what is possible with the right political will.
. Some 350m trees have been planted in a single day, part of an initiative to plant 4bn trees in 2019 by encouraging every citizen to plant at least 40 seedlings.
Ethiopia’s forest coverage is now only 4%, down from 35% a century ago. This drought-prone country recognises the importance of letting nature heal the planet and demonstrates what can be achieved with focused leadership. more...

Took this photo on a recent cycling holiday in Holland. An e-bike charging point - provided by the Maarstraat cafe to encourage custom!
The bike is a way of life in Holland and battery assisted bikes now outnumber traditional bikes.
The health and environmental payback from encouraging bike useage is phenomenal.
And you get up to 5000 mpg! (comparing typical petrol to battery charging costs)

And now the (really) Bad News ...
The global oil and gas industry intends to spend $4.9trillion over the next 10 years, exploring and developing new reserves, none of which we should be burning.
Is YOUR money helping fund this madness?
Check how your savings are used. If in doubt move your money!
Check your bank's eco credentials. If in doubt change your bank!
If you have investments that look suspect, sell them!
Don't delay - last year, the world burned more fossil fuel than ever before.
