This month's issue is being put out early so as to maintain the impetus of the many high profile Global Warming events that have captured the media headlines these last few weeks.
+++ Upcoming Events +++
Focus on Global Warming
At long last, the issue of Climate Change has made the headlines!
In recent weeks we have had a string of headline grabbing events.
Here is a round-up in case you missed any of them.

Here is a round-up in case you missed any of them.
The government’s official advisers, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), stated that the UK’s net greenhouse gas emissions should fall to zero by 2050, emphasising that the transformation is necessary, affordable and desirable.

Meanwhile Extinction Rebellion, backed by an earlier UN statement, are pressing for 2025 rather than 2050. This target may be unrealistic, but there is a strong argument that missing 2025 by a few years is much less dangerous than hitting the CCC's 2050 target comfortably. As Swedish student Greta Thunberg says, if your house is on fire, you don’t tell people that the fire brigade will be along in a few hours – you act.
The Greta Thunberg effect: at last, MPs focus on climate change

And in Parliament there was cross-party support for Jeremy Corbyn's declaration of a formal climate and environment emergency.

The task now is to stop our leaders from frittering away the short time left to us for averting the worst effects of Global Warming.

And in case there was doubt about the seriousness of the issue, we've even had Sir David wading in with an hour long documentary on the BBC. If you missed this powerful presentation, you have only two weeks to view it on iPlayer - here.

And the message really is getting through - a poll by Greenpeace revealed 76% say that they would cast their vote differently to protect the planet. Politicians take note! Green issues matter.

Focus on Recycling
Our Repair Café is a free service run by Transition volunteers.
Even if you don't have anything that needs repairing you are welcome to come along for a chat and enjoy a free coffee/tea. First Saturday of the month - full details on our Facebook page here.
At our May repair café our repairers were faced with repairing, amongst many other things, a CD player, a radio, a horse racing game, a radio controlled helicopter, and a talking ice cream scoop! (see photos below). And our talented sewing and sharpening volunteers were kept very busy too.
And don't forget the Repair Café Recycling Table with items to take away for free!
(Please note we can't accept items for the table from visitors)
Focus On Plastic
While some progress is being made on other plastic products, the sale of plastic water bottles goes from strength to strength - not the steep decline that is required but increasing by 3% a year. Clearly people aren't going to change without strong monetary incentives. Again, we need strong government action - where is it? Read more about this disturbing trend here
