2040 is an Australian documentary that takes a solutions-based approach to how we can, using the technology we already have, mitigate the enormous global issues we currently face. It's a story of hope, and a powerful tool to encourage people to take action.

Analysis by the International Energy Agency reveals that all the world's energy needs can be met by offshore wind! Turbines can all be within a 40 mile coastal band. We could slash fossil fuel consumption if we wished. Read more ...
Introducing the UK’s first full-scale cryobattery, developed by Highview Power. It stores air in liquid form at -196C. The liquid can be turned back into gas, which is used to turn a turbine and generate electricity. A gigantic battery that is ideal for storing wind and solar energy for later use.
And here is the “Gravity Battery” which hoists and drops 12,000 ton weights down disused mine shafts. It is being developed in the UK by Gravitricity, which proposes using Britain’s old mines to store clean electricity at half the cost of lithium-ion batteries.
We know about the trolley bus, now there's the trolley-truck! Under trial in Germany, a neat way to provide electric HGVs. See the video at this BBC site .....
And now - the worst idea ever!
Convair Model 118 ConvAirCar, not a joke - two were built in 1948. Thankfully they didn't catch on!
Highly polluting personal jets did however.
The 140,000 private UK flights produce 1m tons of CO2 (cf. average UK personal footprint of 10 tons)
A single private flight from London to New York is equivalent to driving a typical UK car non-stop for four and a half years.

A single private flight from London to New York is equivalent to driving a typical UK car non-stop for four and a half years.
But there are now proposals to exclude private jets from UK airports as soon as 2025. A bonus would be a huge boost to develop alternative electric aircraft. Read more here...

Meat-eating Vegans?
Lab grown meat is coming on stream. The “meat” is grown from cell samples painlessly extracted from a small number of animals, they are not killed. Unlike soya or Quorn products this meat really is meat!
So the interesting question is - Can vegans eat this meat?
Email us your thoughts, we'll include the best in the next newsletter.

We don't want to spoil your Christmas, but ...
On the 40th anniversary (!) of the first climate change convention, 11,000 scientists back warning of "untold suffering due to the climate crisis” unless there are major transformations to global society.

Are we all being manipulated?
Climate Change deniers increasingly find it difficult to deny the effects of fossil fuels, so they deflect attention away from hard political action by promoting individual behaviour changes - such as diet, travel, recycling, etc. While these really do matter, we need to be aware that all this fits well with the deniers' deflection campaign. Personal lifestyle action, though essential, is not enough to resolve the climate crisis!
